The fall season in Newport News, Virginia

resembles a scene straight out of a classic painting with radiant shades of red, brown and yellow,

dotting the trees that line the cheerful roads and picturesque landscape.

Known as a beautiful coastal town, Newport News is loaded with an extensive shipping history,

dating back to America's founding.

However, not all of Newport News history is favorable.

This relatively small town, nestled on the James River's northern shore, has a reputation

for its high crime rate, most involving burglary occurring in the East End

near the Newport News shipbuilding. With its ties to the military and boating industry,

this community was also home to many young families, including the parents.
