out there, how to be a cheapskate, or maybe where and dear to my heart, as well as many of you out there, how to be a cheap skate.

Or maybe where and how to save money on all this mountain bike gear without getting screwed by

buying junk would be a better way to put it.

Now, there's a big difference between saving some coin by finding a good deal and saving

some coin by buying gear or even an entire bike that's going to fall

apart after a few days of abuse. One is smart shopping and the other is pretty much just throwing

your money away, which is exactly what you didn't want to do in the first place. So later on in

this show, we're going to talk about how to save money on an entire bike, if buying

used is worth it, the components where it makes next to no difference on the trail to spend

more, and some of our favorite ways to be cheap bastards without actually looking like cheap

bastards. But first, we've got some stories about saving money going wrong. I'm going to start.

Mine involves a dollar store, Brian and Alicia.

Oh, perfect.

So I've got a local dollar store. It's about 500 feet away from my house. And I do most of my

grocery shopping there, along with all sorts of other things.

Everything. One day I was walking through those halls and I found a stick of deodorant. It cost

$1. And I thought, how could this go wrong? Right? So this stick of

deodorant, it had flames on the package, which is probably never a good sign, but it was so

cheap that I ended up buying, I think I bought 15 of them or something like that. And I mean,
