Summary

Episode #86

"He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much." -Luke 16:10

" I hope I shall possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man."

-George Washington

In this episode, Sally and Kristen get at the heart of godly character, and how it is cultivated, inspired and tended to in the lives of our children. They discuss how to really reach the hearts of our children when they fail (not in the heat of the moment!) and how to create opportunities in your home that invite confession and repentance. They also share some of their favorite literary examples that have helped them along the way. Their favorites are here for you to see below (if you are on itunes or receiving this via RSS feed in your email, click over to sallyclarkson.com to see them all prettied up)

Then Kristen is joined by Misty Krasawski who shares how she walks side by side with her children each day, providing organic opportunities for training them and inspiring their imagination through story.

because we're really getting to go through this whole book in one day as we record for you.

1:07.7

And so it feels like we're getting more passionate as we record each one because they're bringing

1:13.4

up so many things in our own hearts. And this is one of my favorite chapters. We're looking at

1:18.3

chapter three today, a heart for character, the gift of loving virtue. And virtue is one of those

words. Sally, do you want to comment on what is a virtue versus a character quality? What would

1:31.8

you say is the difference? Well, of course we go back to the Greeks and they have certain definitions

1:37.4

of virtue. But basically what I really wanted to point out right now is today we want to give our

1:42.0

children the gift of loving virtue. Oh, did I forget the word loving when you said that? Oh, okay.

1:46.6

I'm just going to emphasize it. You did great. But I think that there's a difference between trying

1:51.8

to teach your children to be behavior realistically perfect or teaching them to really love

1:58.2

nobility and courage and goodness. And I looked up virtue, Clayner, talking about this and there's

2:05.2

many different lists of virtue. And basically they are the attributes of having good and godly

character qualities. So if you have virtue in steadfastness, it means that your personality is a
