then they either aren't artists themselves, or they've never spent a lot of time with an artist.

Sure, it's possible, perhaps even probable,

that there are artists who can daintily etch a little woodcut

or gently pour acrylic paint atop a canvas, and voila,

all done with nary a beat of sweat dampening their foreheads.

But most of the time, it's serious stuff.

Sketching, preparing, arranging equipment, even power tools. Mixing pigment. Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. You're suddenly

covered with marble dust, fingers smudged with charcoal or speckled with oil paint, smelling of

turpentine and of your own exertions. And in the most extreme of cases,

yeah, maybe you have had to contort yourself into just the right position to be able to chisel

off the last fragment, to strain your arm up to dob that last bit of paint. Whof. And now you are

tired, to be sure. Probably working alone in your studio all day, no help, toiling away.
