Summary

My friend Jessica Frew (life coach, former husband is gay and still “part of the family”, married mother of three) joins us to share her story of her husband coming out as gay and that marriage ending—and still staying close as they co-parent their daughter. Jessica also talks about her important new book called “Shove Your Shoulds” which focuses on healthier boundaries, improved self-image, and deeper acceptance of ourselves and others. Jessica writes the book from her own experiences and from her work as a life coach. I am grateful for Jessica’s voice on acceptance and understanding in our community—and encourage everyone to check out her new book (currently in presale—release date of Sept 12, 2025). Thank you, Jessica, for being on the podcast. You are awesome. Just kind of a couple housekeeping things since I haven't done a podcast for a while.

0:15.0

We're not ramping down the number of podcasts we do.

0:18.0

I generally just respond to people that reach out and schedule them and maybe

0:23.1

it's summertime unless people are reaching out.

0:26.1

I'm also trying to really focus in on LGBTQ, so I'm trying to decline podcasts that don't

0:33.5

have an LGBTQ theme, just because I'm getting a little gassed out of just being present

0:41.8

for all the podcasts, and I want to stay in the LGBTQ space. And also my wife and I have a new church

0:48.0

assignment that we're trying to focus in and spend more time there, as well as obviously

0:53.7

stay in the LGBTQ space and be available

0:56.2

of people that want to talk, meet, send me DMs, just need a voice of support, as well as

1:02.9

people that want to come on the podcast. So that's the end of the housekeeping items.

1:10.3

Running listeners, if you've been following a little bit, I mentioned that I run, and I'm

1:14.3

hoping to run the St. George Marathon again this year.

1:18.2

That'll be my second year in a row.

1:20.6

And last year I did just under five hours, but I'm in better shape this year, even though

1:25.8

I'm getting older and hope to beat that time.

1:28.5

So sometime in October, I might give you an update to let you know how that goes.

1:32.8

And I've got a couple sons running the half marathon and a son running the marathon.

1:37.1

And marathon running, even in my mid-60s, is something that really works for me.

1:41.9

So I'm grateful to be able to be blessed with good health

1:44.4

and be able to run. And it's very good for my mental health to have some time out there
