Summary
On today's episode, Dennis speaks with OIS survivor, Ryan Frank.
Ryan Frank began his law enforcement career with the Tehama County Sheriff's Office, in northern CA, in 2011. During his career Ryan has held collateral assignments as a K9 handler, SWAT team member, Field Training Officer, Defensive Tactic's Instructor, and Detective. In July 2018, Ryan was working patrol and had his wife Hayley, who is a communications dispatcher, was doing a ride along with him. Ryan, contacted a subject during a suspicious vehicle contact. During that contact the suspect attempted to flee in his vehicle. Prior to fleeing the suspect fired 71 rounds from an AK-47 rifle, shooting both Ryan and Hayley multiple times. Although Ryan was seriously wounded he was able to return fire prior to the suspect leaving the scene. The suspect later crashed and died from gunshot wounds he received during the exchange of gunfire with Ryan. Ryan fully recovered from the injuries he sustained and is still a full time police officer today. In 2020, Ryan lateralled to the Redding Police Department, where he is currently employed. Ryan is outspoken about the importance of continual training in law enforcement. Ryan is an instructor on Officer Survival Tactics and shares his story of survival so other cops can learn from his experiences. Â
Today, Ryan shares his OIS story, talks about the dangers of complacency, and the importance of training to be the best cop you can be.
