Originally today I wanted to talk about the heirs of Barbarossa, that is Hassan Pasha, his son,

Turgut Raise, known as Dragut, Kirtugluazir and Murat Raise, the elder.

However, most of those characters

would require discussions of Morocco and the Portuguese

and their empire and an entirely different war that I'm not prepared to cover in a single

episode. Now some of that will be necessary and we will get there but not today.

And the more I read, three of them began to look more and more like

supporting characters while one of them really stood out as a main character.

So today we're going to talk about the one true heir of Barbarossa,

a man who was, depending on the situation and your point of view, a Corsair, an Admiral, a Governor, and a

pirate, and a man who I choose to use as our bridge to proper Barby piracy. This is episode 82, the drawn sword of Islam.
