Yeah, you know I was just thinking about this so we've been doing the podcast for a year and I think we'd known each other about a year before we started

We're doing this podcast for one and a half years. Where does the time go? I'm not prepared. We started in March 2019. You're right. You're right. You're right. We've been doing this for a year and a half. Wow. But yeah, we've never met in person. Sometimes it feels like we never will. We're just the plague days just keep going. It's fine. We're saving money. Yeah, we will someday and today you have the second part of this North Atlantic serial killer?

Yes, and this case has all of the warnings.

Okay, so last week we learned about the brutal death of 16 year old Minifanti and her

mother in Saint Alexander Quebec. I hope I pronounced that correctly. And then 10 years later in 1874, about 35 miles south in St. Elb and Vermont,

20-year-old school teacher Maria de Ball was murdered, raped and mutilated like Minnie had been, and there were suspects but not enough evidence to convict anybody.

Exactly. And so this is the second half of that story and this takes place in Pembroke, New Hampshire, which is a small thriving town in 1875 with a population of about 2,500.

So Sun Cook, I think it's a village in Pembroke, like part of it's in Allenstown and part of it's in Pembroke, and I'm not sure, it's just like another area that's known as Sun Cook as best as I can tell and it's named for the Sun Cook River

which flows through the area before joining up with the Merrimack River.

The Langmaids, James, and Mary Ann were married on the same day as my parents March 27th, but 112 years earlier in 1856,

when he was 23 and she was 17.

They lived in Chichester, New Hampshire, and their first child, a girl they named Josephine, who they called Josie,

was born in November of 1857 and her brother Waldo, not long after in the summer of 1859. but the American Civil War was beginning in New Hampshire

would send 38,000 men and boys to fight against the Confederacy.

James was away fighting when his three-month-old daughter Ella died of Diphtheria.
