Welcome to another great episode of the Why Religion Podcast.

When I was a young adult, I once heard a radio broadcast discussing Latter-day Saints

and their beliefs.

I don't remember who the commentator was or even what program it was on.

But the person was from another faith and I was interested in his perspectives on us.

For the most part, he did a good job summarizing our key positions.

But toward the end of the interview, he said something that all these decades later,

it still sticks with me.

He said something along the lines that although Latter-day Saints are generally good family-oriented

people with Christian values, they have a doctrine that keeps us outside of the traditional

Christian family.

And the doctrine is that we believe that we can become like God.

I remember hearing that and being so confused why that was considered blasphemous or why it

might make us un-Christian.

Now that I am a little bit older, I better understand some of the differences in doctrinal

perspectives across the Christian community.

However, I also understand that to blankly say that it isn't Christian to believe that

one can become an heir of Godhood also isn't completely in harmony with some Christian

teachings.
