Summary

On the evening of September 14, 2008, Jennifer Spoerl went out for the evening, leaving her two children at their home in Summerville, South Carolina with her live-in boyfriend, Justin Hillerby. Jenn arrived home late and didn’t check on her 22-month-old son, Blaise, until after 10:00 the following morning, when she found Blaise dead in his crib with dried blood on his face. Days later, after telling multiple versions of his story, Justin Hillerby was arrested and charged with Blaise’s murder.

In this episode, I’ll tell you the story of a beautiful, blond, blue-eyed boy who didn’t live to see his second birthday thanks to the drunken rage of his mother’s boyfriend. I’ll also tell you the story of a mother who reportedly continues to make terrible decisions in regard to her children’s safety even after losing one of them in such a predictable, preventable way.

This is part one of the heartbreaking story of Blaise Spoerl.
