How can this happen?

We're in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Today, we are on a shock value trip.

What is the value of being shocked?

Well, beware my renegade nation.

Beware my listeners.

Because shock value wears off.

And then, guess what's exposed?

What is exposed is going to shock you, but it's not the shock value that is the point.

So what is shock value?

It is the potential or form of communication to provoke a reaction of disgust, shock, anger, or fear.

So ultimately, it implies a shallow approach, where being memorable or provocative is more important than being

authentic, helpful, or correct. So all they want to do is get your attention. But then if you let them,

if you let them follow that lead and you continue to follow them,

what's left for you? Nothing helpful. Nothing that is authentic or real. Because once the shock

wears off, there's nothing there.

So what is it that we're actually going to debate today?

Part of it has to do with candidates who are only trying to get your attention.

And then the rest of it is, once they shock you, that's all they're good for.
