and performing a hugely appealing blend of folk, rock, soul and country for two decades.

Appropriately enough, given their roots in the city of Brotherly Love, they also happen to be siblings.

Michael and Kevin released their seventh album, 36 cents in September 2014.

And as we record this episode in early June 2015, they're giving up for a month long US tour.

As we said Michael and Kevin Bacon hail from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the northeast of the United States.

Michael, the elder of the two, was born in 1949 and became interested in music from a very early age, as did his kid brother Kevin, nine years as junior.

The boys played music together as kids along with their sister Hilda. I think they even had their own jug band.

And the whole Bacon Brood were enthusiastically supported in their creative endeavors by their parents

who were both eminent Philadelphians. Michael was already a multi-instrumentalist by his teens.

He formed his first rock band, Peter and the Wolves, whilst at college, and in the late 60s cut his teeth

performing at various clubs around Philly like the Electric Factory.

I think he also recorded for Columbia didn't he with

the band called Good News? Mm-hmm. I believe they played the Isle of White Festival in that year, like 1970.

In the early 70s he up sticks and relocated to Nashville where he became a staff songwriter.

A few years later, after moving back to Philly and studying composition, he headed to New York to pursue a career in film scoring,
