Should Christians under the new covenant still feel obligation to the Old Testament requirements?

Don't forget to subscribe and let's dive in. Tithing simply means 10. In the Old Testament, we see that the

first time the mention of tithing happened happened with Abraham when he conquered and helped to rescue

his nephew lot. In Genesis 14 verse 20 it says, and he gave the Melchizedek a tithe of all. Now we don't

know where Abraham learned about this. We don't know who taught him because the Ten Commandments were not given.

The law of Moses wasn't given. So the Father of Faith Abraham after a successful conquest decides to honor God to give 10% of everything that he has earned or received.

And this first mention of Tide under the Old Testament was a response

to God's blessing. It wasn't trying to position yourself to receive that blessing. It was trying to

respond or react to the fact that God has already blessed me. The second time we see the topic

of tithing is mentioned is his grandson, Jacob,

who doesn't have anything but he has this revelation of God during the night

and then he wakes up and Genesis 28 verse 22 it says,

And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall become God's house

and of all that you give me I will surely give you a 10th to you.

So unlike his grandfather Abraham who has been blessed and he gives 10%

Jacob has not been blessed materially. He doesn't have any materialistic blessings,

he only has the spiritual blessing of his father. He makes a promise that once he receives the blessing of God, he will begin to tithe. I find it interesting that Jacob does not tithe on credit. He doesn't go borrow some money and he decides to tithe. Some people tithe on their credit card. They don't actually have money to tithe and they tithe on their credit card. And I don't think that's biblical personally. It's good to give a promise to God that if God blesses me I will be a blessing,
