If you don't like what you hear here, please forget I said anything. So it's been a pretty

busy week when it comes to the administration's efforts to engineer a ceasefire deal between

Russia and Ukraine. From my perspective, it is not going great, at least not if the goal here is a

just and lasting peace. We had a meeting this week in Saudi Arabia between the U.S. and Russia,

one, that Ukraine was supposed to attend a little later on after the initial setting, but

it decided to protest its exclusion from that meeting and declined to participate.

So Ukraine, as well as Europe and America, recently were beholden to the notion that there should be no discussions about Ukraine's future without Ukraine participating in it.

That seems to be gone.

And it's only the latest concession to the Russian side.

Trump's already broken Russia's diplomatic isolation with this meeting.

But he also, at least Marco Rubio, who's pretty much leading these negotiations, held out
