You know, I'm old enough now and I've seen enough in life already to know that evil hides amongst the good.

That's why it really does take a trained eye to spot it.

All of us get to see what evil looks like in one or more of its infinite forms.

And depending upon our life's circumstance, some of us have seen more evil than others,

more than our fair share on a daily basis. So quite naturally, some of us are better at spotting it.

But you have to start with the idea that it does exist, and just because the people around you and

your life, the folks that you live with and

among, are mostly in the good, well, that does not preclude evil from presenting itself right

in your own backyard. And certainly we see it every day, sometimes from afar on television or

elsewhere in the media, and sometimes we get to actually see it, up close and personal.

On an individual basis, your own willingness to develop a trained eye and a trained mind

are almost always directly related to the dangers that you have come upon in life,

the dangers that resulted from evil being nearby, and you not being able to recognize the presence of that evil before it struck

in that certain circumstance. As humans, we learn from our experiences, and the upfront and

personal experiences are the ones with

the most impact. So as a juror, in this case, each of you that is listening is going to evaluate and

interpret what you are hearing in different ways, and one of the things that affects that evaluation

is how much evil that you personally have seen

in your lifetime and how receptive you are first to its basic existence.
