Like that. Okay. Hi. Hi. Sorry. I'm going to literally start telling a story without any introduction. Welcome to the podcast. Yeah, hi, I'm Lucy. I'm Emma and we're here on this glorious Easter weekend. Yeah, it's nice. It's so nice being off work. I'm the most, I'm a different person. Yeah, I'm so relaxed. But I still put off doing research to the very last minute.

I'm not completely different, and maybe half different. So this story that I'm going to tell you also took place on an Easter weekend, but back in 1842

on Wednesday the 6th of April, there was a policeman patrolling the Wandsworth High Street at about 8.45 PM.

This was PC Gardner and he was approached by a shop boy who ran up to tell him that they'd just been a theft at the pawnbrokers

where he worked.

He said that a dark-haired Irish coachman, suspicious, like who the shiftiest character you could have in Victorian England

was not only Irish but a dark Irishman. It sounds kind of hot.

And obviously at the time they would have had quite a specific dress that would have shown the jobs that's how we knew.

I don't know how I feel about porn brokers. They're kind of a bit unethical, aren't they?

They're really good plot devices when people are running away and they're like,

I need money fast, I'm going to sell my stuff.

Yeah.

I don't understand how they've only ever seen in films people selling their things to

porn brokers. No one really wants to go and buy something.

I think you sell them dirt cheap and then you buy them sort of quite cheap. Yeah. It's the business plan. It's our

business plan. Here's dirt cheap. It's one of those awkward things that it

exploits desperate people but also at the same time it's there for desperate people.
