Gays and lesbians have always been a part of American society.

Since the 70s, the 60s, we've got the stonewall rebellion,

gays and lesbians have always been a part of American society.

In the 70s, 80s, 90s, gays and lesbians were fighting very hard for some very basic things.

And actually even right up to five years ago. Gays and lesbians were

fighting for some very basic things. They fought for age drugs. They fought to be

recognized for the AIDS pandemic. They fought for people to basically stop dying in the streets because we weren't getting the attention that we needed because we were being decimated by the AIDS crisis.

That was in the 80s and before that in the 70s we were just fighting to basically be able to congregate in public spaces together.

I think that sometimes people don't realize that.

That we were just fighting to be able to go to a bar
