Summary

Steve Walker set out to hike the A.T. earlier this year with the intention of reaching Maine by October. On the way, he shared his stories and his thoughts regarding the trail, in a regular series of videos uploaded to YouTube. He attracted over 1500 subscribers, and his gentle, measured delivery was compelling.

For me, Steve's finest moment was his unexpected bear encounter. Here is the link https://youtu.be/ig_79TOKJjI It cracked me up. The bear comes onto the scene at about three minutes. Enjoy.

Steve can be contacted at mh60pilot@cox.net. He'd be happy to share advice and speak with hikers he met and one's he may have missed.

This week, I introduced a new little segment, called "If I did it again." These are things I may have changed were I to hike the AT again. If any listeners have their own improvements to this magical hike, please let me know. You can contact me at steve@mightyblueontheat.com and don't forget to get the free ebook on my writing site, at steve@steveadams.info. If you enjoy that, I hope you then move on to the two books of my hike.

See you all next week.

Welcome back to the show to those of you who have become regulars and a warm welcome

0:30.2

if you're dropping in for the first time. I hope you stick around. The basic premise of this

0:35.5

show is that I'm trying to reflect the truth and the importance of the Appalachian Trail tenets of Hike Your Own H or H-Y-O-H.

0:44.3

We all have our own motivations for doing this crazy thing, yet we all do it differently.

0:49.6

It's the differences that make for interesting stories, and I hope that I'm bringing some of those out.

0:54.7

I must say, I've been grateful to the people who've given so generously of their time to play a part

0:59.9

in my show. Generosity of hikers is a constant theme on the trail and it seems that we don't

1:05.8

lose it once we return. Today we've reached episode number seven. Most of our listeners seem to be enjoying

1:13.1

the variety of guests and today's guests may well be known to some of you. I have an interview

1:18.0

with Steve Walker or Big Bird who attracted a large following on YouTube earlier this year,

1:24.0

including me. Steve was very much of my vintage, though it turned out that he's a little

1:28.4

younger than me, so I was fascinated to see how he'd cope the undeniable rigours of the

1:32.6

Appalachian Trail. He intended to hike the entire trail, documenting his thoughts through

1:37.8

pretty much daily posts on YouTube. His homespun philosophies and can-do attitude were inspiring, so I hope that you enjoy my chat with him.

1:47.2

I really like the fact that he fessed up to everything that went wrong, as well as his clear joy in taking on the trail.

1:54.0

I've lined up a number of interesting, even intriguing guests in the coming weeks as well.

Stacey Cozell, who recently completed the trail,

is paralysed below the hips. Yeah, I know. Her story is remarkable and an inspiration to

2:11.1

anybody who thinks this would be physically challenging. It is. But most of you start with an

2:16.8

advantage over Stacey. You have a couple of working

2:19.5

legs. That inspiring interview will be coming up next week. Another future guest and this one
