listening. Last week we discussed the early days of Queen Elizabeth's

rule. We talked about the challenges

she faced as well as the tactics that she used to overcome them, including a new class of

mariners in England. Men who were young, ambitious, of about some of England's earliest voyages to the Caribbean, voyages under a man named John

Hawkins and one voyage under another captain named John Lovell. At least one, maybe two of these voyages,

had on board a young, highly talented mariner named

Francis Drake.

Today we're going to be talking about the third voyage of John Hawkins.

This was a much larger voyage than any of the three previous had been that also had on board

Francis Drake. This voyage would change relations between England and Spain forever and it would shape the worldview and the future career of Sir Francis Drake.
