I start there.

How long have you lived in Iraq?

This is going on the 10th year.

And so the birth of ISIS, the American military presence,

leaving, you've had a front row seat to all this.

Yeah, we arrived in the middle of the last war

when the Sunni Shia civil war was really at a tight.

And why did you go?

Let's start there.

Why did you go to Iraq?

Well, we were living nearby in a neighboring country

in Turkey and watching the headlines just blow up

about this massive debacle that we were witnessing

in terms of the overthrow of Saddam Hussein

and the American occupation and the whole allied project

in Iraq, the coalition project in Iraq.

And it was just we were too close.
