Summary

Those little rascals at Most Valuable Promotions added another spectacle fight to their big, loud MMA show coming up on Netflix on May 16. Nate Diaz and Mike Perry are set to do the damn thing at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, rounding out a lineup of three featured fights that also includes Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano and Francis Ngannou vs. Philipe Lins. And that, kids, puts us in an unexpected position. Who would’ve thought that by the middle of March, with the UFC fresh off announcing the fight card for its gala event at the White House, the biggest story in the sport would be Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian making their first foray into MMA? Crazy days. This week we ask: Is this a problem for the UFC? If so, how big? And what exactly does MVP want to be in the MMA space? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

I'm Chad Dundas. That's Ben Fulks. We're both longtime M.MA journalists and for nearly the last 14 years.

We've been meeting here every week to break down all the action in the wild, weird, and occasionally wonderful world of mixed martial arts.

Ben, I said as recently as last week that I thought the best story in MMA right now was

0:51.0

Dana White versus Eddie Hearn and their developing feud.

0:57.2

But in light of recent events over the last couple weeks, everything that's been going on,

you might say, I think that the hottest story is actually the developing story around the Rhonda Rousey

1:13.3

Gina Carano card on Netflix and MVP continuing to build out that card most

1:19.2

recently with the announcement of the fight between Nate Diaz and Mike Perry and

1:24.6

in addition to that Rhonda Rousey's escalating personal war of words with the UFC.

1:32.3

And in addition to that, her showing up on AEW wrestling this weekend. So on this card, now you've

1:39.4

got Rhonda Rousey versus Gina Carrano. You got Francis Ingano versus Felipe Linz, and now you have Nate Diaz versus Mike Perry.

1:47.1

And that puts us in a position of talking about this MVP MMA card on Netflix as basically the leader in the clubhouse to be the card of the year in 2026.

2:00.7

And that is both insane and unforeseen,

2:04.9

given that we would be saying that in the middle of March when the UFC just announced the

2:09.6

White House card, right? And yet here we are. Like nobody thought we would be in this position.

2:14.5

We also need a big, big caveat around card of the year because we have to ask

2:20.7

ourselves, what do we mean by that? We do not mean as far as athletic ability, martial arts, pure

2:31.3

skill and relevance and meaning to the sport in 2026, that is not what
