I'm Hannah. I'm Sauruti and welcome to the first installment of Redhanded Halloween October, Friday Night Tree House of Horror extravaganza.

As you know, if you've been listening to the show, we're doing what we've been calling it apart from all the things I just called it.

We're just doing pretty intense episodes for October.

Yeah, you guys seem to like it last year. We only did two then, so we're going to give you five episodes instead.

And it's what, it's just Halloween at Redhanded. That's boring. Yours was better.

Okay, so let's get on with it, I suppose.

Our belief system, our world view, is constructed through conclusions that we make based on our experiences, or on the experiences of those we trust that are passed onto us.

So when someone we love is in trouble, it is only natural that we react to this with tools that we have collected through our paradigm.

But is there a point where certain world views can be overruled by others?

In our society, if a family member is having a psychotic break, you would take them to a doctor, a psychiatrist, and if things got bad enough, you might even get them sectioned.

But when in 2007 Janet Moses exhibited increasingly erratic and concerning behavior, her family didn't take her to the doctor, they took her to an exorcist.

And what followed divided a nation and it restoked a debate that has rumbled on for years, modern psychiatry versus ancient cultural practice.

We're in New Zealand this week, if you hadn't already guessed, and before you even think about coming for us over the pronunciation of words, we're just trying our best.

If we had a penny for every time people mispronounced Lester and Gloucester on True Crime Podcast, we'd both be able to quit our jobs, so just sit down.

I genuinely heard on a very very big successful podcast this week, someone described people from Liverpool as Liverpool Dianne.

And the other guy on the podcast said, oh no, isn't it Liverpool Dianne? He was like, no, no, I've looked up, it's Liverpool Dianne.

You hear some fantastic pronunciations. My favourite, our Gloucester is Gloucester, and also a more common one which is the River Tames.

It's not. It's the River Tames.

No. The Tames.

Yeah, I also think there is a big difference between mispronouncing something and saying something in your own accent, I think that's a distinction.

But all just pronunciation of place names, it doesn't mean we don't care, it's just difficult, we're trying.
