Welcome to the hardwood hustle. Sam and I here today and we're going to talk pressure.

1:19.9

Pressure on offense, pressure on defense.

1:23.0

Should you be pressing, how do you handle pressure better?

1:27.1

I mean, this is a part of the game that honestly it it's like you go to practice, like it's not the most fun. Like sometimes you might, I don't know, for us, like we have 30 games, right? And we might see pressure, like full court pressure, five or six. So we're talking about maybe, I don't know, 20%, 25%, probably not even 25%, but we're seeing it, but we know we've got to be good at it. We know we can lose games if we're not ready to handle it. And then we've got to flip it over and we've got to ask ourselves like, all right, should we press? If we should press, are we pressing because we want to slow the clock down and we want less time for their possession? Or are we pressuring because we feel like, man, we need to create some turnovers. Like there's so much thought that goes into it. And oftentimes, if it's not like a primary for you, it becomes an afterthought. So we're going to break this down a little bit, both on the offense and defensive end, like just holistically thoughts on pressure and whether your team should be doing it or not. And then when you get pressed, how do you handle it? So, Sam, let's start on the defensive end of the ball. Like what goes in to deciding should we be a team that presses? Honestly, look, every team has to have a press because you're going to get down. You're going to get behind, right? So every team has to have it. So it has to be some part of your plan.

Now, whether it's 3% of your plan, 30% of your plan, or 90% of your plan, there's

2:42.1

going to be a small portion of it that's at least part of your plan because at some point

2:46.1

during the season, you're going to have to press the other team.

2:50.6

DJ, I think maybe I'd like to open with just a couple of thoughts also that may help guide the conversation.

2:57.7

Okay, if you're deciding to be a pressure team, I think you've got to think about developmental and competitive.
