This week, TJ and Sam shared how to cultivate a winning culture and set expectations.

0:17.5

Let's get started.

0:19.3

Welcome to the hardwood hustle, Sam and I. And Sam had an idea that I think is really important to coach.

0:23.9

It's one of the hardest things to do is really dealing with the psyche of players and the mentality of your team.

0:29.5

And, you know, it was kind of an example said is there was a huge game a couple weeks ago in college football.

0:35.1

And it was white out at Penn State and Oregon was coming into town, and Penn State lost a heartbreaker. And then they turn around the next week, and we're not picking on Penn State here, you Penn State fans, but they come in the next week, and they lose to O and 4 who just fired their coach, UCLA. They go on the road, and UCLA looks really bad their first couple of games and then they go in and then

they lose back to back. And so this is just one example of the ability or fighting to keep your team

1:02.0

locked in. Right. And this happens in every sport all the time. You go win a big game and then you

1:06.4

lose one you shouldn't, right? Or you go in and you know, you're on a little bit of a streak and you let down and then all of a sudden you lose one maybe that you shouldn't. Or maybe you play up and you win one that your team wouldn't normally win and then show up against a team that you feel like you got a good chance of beating and then you lose that one. And it's just, it's crazy. I mean, we're in the business of dealing with young people and keeping them locked in and

1:28.6

focused and being able to think about, you know, we talk about all the time, the process, one play

1:33.1

at a time, next best action, like all of those things, really much easier said than done. And you

1:38.9

see it play out week to week in college football. You see it play out within the week in college

1:43.3

basketball. You see it play out all the time in every single sport.

1:46.3

Why does that happen and what can we do?

1:48.3

Let's talk about that, Sam.

1:50.4

Yeah, this is fascinating.

1:52.1

Like you said, T.J., and I'm always fascinated by programs that can sustain a high-level

1:59.1

success.

2:00.2

Like, you'll see a team, a program, a coach have a one year or a one off

2:05.0

where they do really well.
