have big fertilizer problems in the United States because remember, even if you're exporting it,

and the price has gone up. So if you're from

Iowa, where I'm from, you're paying a lot more for fertilizer this planting season, assuming you

didn't buy it ahead of time, which, by the way, most of the farmers didn't. They've been in a little

bit of a tight squeeze.

Often they buy input seed and fertilizer prior to a year in advance of planning. Well, this year, they didn't.

So they're buying it basically not forward, but buying it on the spot market.

Urea prices from the Middle East have surged from under $500 per metric ton to around $700 or higher,

with overall fertilizer costs up more than 50% year over year. Spring wheat planning could hit the lowest level since 1970.
