I’ve seen Lyme disease pop up more and more in the news over the last few months – and wanted to learn more about it. The first thing I did was pick up Ally Hilfiger’s book (Bite Me: How Lyme Disease Stole My Childhood, Made Me Crazy, and Almost Killed Me). The subtitle of the book really grabbed my attention. But it also made me question if this was the work of a publisher doing their job to make me want to buy the book. I wondered if Lyme disease was really that serious. It is. After reading Ally’s book and talking with her, I now understand the power of this disease and how underestimated it is by so many. It can not only affect the physical body of its sufferers, but can alter their mental state, too.Â
Ally and I discuss why her Lyme disease went undetected for years, how she landed in a psych ward at the age of eighteen because of it, how she began to heal by incorporating a new set of tools into her life, what you can do to protect yourself from Lyme disease, and the biggest lesson she’s learned from living with a chronic illness.Â

0:33.1 | I'm bringing you these lessons right now from my husband's parents porch. We're back here again. |
0:41.8 | We had to evacuate Charleston because of the hurricane. So you get the wind chimes and the birds |
0:49.8 | and the wind that their porch brings. I was supposed to tell you about this cool new thing that the |
0:58.6 | podcast is introducing, but because I had to leave my house in a rush. Didn't really get a chance |
1:07.2 | to get to that. I was also supposed to tell you why I was in Ohio last week, |
1:15.3 | but I'm still kind of processing that a little, and I'll do that next week too. Basically, |
1:21.2 | next week's podcast you need to brace yourself for because it's going to be full on. |
1:29.0 | Oh, full on. Full on. |
1:30.9 | But before I get to today's guest, in this episode, I talked briefly about rebounding, |
1:36.4 | which is basically jumping on a mini trampoline. |
1:40.0 | And it turned out to be a cool coincidence because Belicon is actually today's sponsor. |
1:47.0 | I did not plan it, I swear. |
1:48.7 | It just came out to be a very cool coincidence. |
1:51.5 | So Belicon makes the very best trampolines on the market. |
1:57.0 | They use a bungee system on their trampolines instead of springs, which is not only better for your joints, but for your ears too. |
2:04.7 | That if you are a misophonia person at all, that squeaky sound can make you go insane and not even want to make you want to jump at all. |
2:15.9 | So I've had my BellaCon now for a few weeks and I was gone |
2:20.9 | all last week and I just kept on thinking about it every day how much I wanted to do it, which is weird |
2:26.6 | because I never miss exercise. So I think this BellaCon thing and I have a special, |
2:32.9 | a special little connection going on. |
2:35.3 | There's a million benefits to rebounding. |
