Because today the beholder got flogged, flogged and beaten and degraded. That is what happened

to the beholder. So this is Paris, CNN. It was wet. Parts of it were weird. Much of it was beautiful, and all of it was very, very memorable.

unlike any other, got the 2024 edition of the Olympic Games officially underway in Paris Friday

night. And truly it was one that will live on

in Olympic legend.

Though maybe not in the way

the Paris 2024 organizers would have hoped.

Oh, so that's the CNN take on this display. Agreed earlier in the ceremony, the first moment that made people

stop and stare was a performance by heavy metal band Gojira, and there aforementioned headless

Marie Antoinette's. They projected and read all these

headless Marie Antoinettes. In an opening ceremony full of classic rock anthems and dance tracks,

the slamming drums and the driving guitar was a surprising change of pace.

Indeed, it was the first time that a metal band had played at the opening ceremony.

I think it should be the last, but it won't.

They went on to say that it is one that left a mark.
