Last time, during the early morning hours of June 4, 1942, Admiral Fletcher's task forces

had spotted parts of Vice Admiral Nagumo's scattered fleet coming for Midway, whereas

Nogumo did not know yet of the force that Admiral Nimitz had put together, having

read Yamamoto's messages thanks to counterintelligence.

Not that there hadn't been signs that the Yorktown, Enterprise, and Hornet were in the area.

It's just that no one on the Japanese side had put the pieces together, nor was Nogumo being

told of all that had been discovered.

They would all learn soon enough.
