This is Betsy Bell, and how can this happen?

It just happens to be the day before the 4th of July. One of the biggest

Independence Day in the world. We're the only ones who celebrate July 4th because we became an independent nation.

Free from oppression.

Free that the citizens could say what they want, think what they want, and believe what

they want, and my, my, my my since that day a lot has happened but something i wanted

to remind you of is that the minds that put together our significance as a nation.

Were men of great thought, of great intellect, and certainly of great conscience,

they believed that the world would be a better place if a nation's people could govern themselves.

And then Thomas Jefferson said this,

may it be to the world what I believe it will be,

the signal of arousing men to burst the chains and to assume the blessings and security of self-government.

That form which we have substituted restores the free right to the unabounded exercise of reason and freedom of opinion. All eyes are opened or opening

to the rights of man for ourselves. Let the annual return of this day forever refresh our recollections of these rights

and an undiminished devotion to them. You know, Thomas Jefferson was one of the founding fathers, and I'm grateful that we have this

quote of his to share with you on such an auspicious day. Freedom is a notion, but it became a way of

life for us in America. We were the only nation that became the

emblem of freedom. In the world, we were the only nation that took the mantle of freedom and wore it

on our flag in our Republican form of government and in the promise that we
