Summary

In this episode I'm joined by Clive Palmer to talk about culture. How do you define it at a football club? What happens if you come in and try to change it, but meet with resistance? Can non-negotiables actually be non-negotiable? Who should define the culture to ensure that all the eggs aren't in the basket of one man? This, and lots more, framed around the work Mikel Arteta is doing at Arsenal, the problems he's having with results, how we got to where are now, why a dressing room clear-out is both necessary and inevitable, and lots more.

Hello and welcome to a brand new R-Splog R-Scast right here on R-Splog.com. How are you? Hope

0:29.0

you're well. Thanks for being here as always. This is the second R-Scast in two days. If you want to hear

0:34.2

all about the Southampton game, the one-one win I was going to say feels like a win. The one-one

0:38.9

draw with Southampton, myself and James had a conversation about the game yesterday. So there is an

0:44.6

R-Scast there for you to listen to. If that's what you fancy, if you haven't listened to it already,

0:49.1

go back, check it. It's there. It's right there. Just push the button, download, stream,

0:53.6

stick it in your ears. It is all there. Today, something a little bit different. I'll be joined in a

0:57.9

couple of moments time by Clive Palmer, who you know from the Arsenal Vision podcast. I'm sure

1:02.1

we're going to talk about culture and identity and changing cultures and changing things of football

1:08.2

clubs and resistance to that change and how difficult it can be dressing room power and putting

1:15.2

in place structures and plans and strategies and things like that. So that's coming up in just a

1:19.5

couple of minutes time. But of course, I think we have to acknowledge one of the most amazing things

1:26.2

to happen this week. And no, I'm not talking about Arsenal scoring a goal from open play.

1:33.4

It's even more amazing than that. This comes from the Midweek Games and they were having one of those,

1:39.8

you know, one of the shows where the guy sit around and talk about football while watching the

1:44.6

football. And this was Tim Sherwood, former Tottenham player, former Tottenham manager, former

1:50.5

Aston Villa manager. You might remember him from such FA Cup finals as 2015. The scene, it's

1:57.3

one one between Liverpool and Tottenham. Liverpool have a corner laid in the game and Tim Sherwood,

2:04.9

he's not that worried. I'm not too worried about his corners. I mean, it might come back to

2:09.1

bite me here, but I think Tottenham has got the dominant, dominant scene in the air there, you know,

2:13.3

so I'm not sure anyone can get the head on the first ball for Liverpool. Pop and that's all.

2:17.6

Oh, Tim, it's for me, no. In the 90th minute. Wow. What a header. What an incredible header that is.
