Summary

I'm back with my class of 2014 again. This week, we have another of those powerful, independent women, Stacey Bucklin, or Stylez. Stacey had wanted to do the trail for quite some time and, when the time was right, she walked away from a job and went on her adventure. She rightly notes in our interview that interrupting your career path isn't necessarily a bad thing.        Stacey is truly passionate about the trail and hiking and the outdoors in general. She even shares her current home with four snakes! While it is incomplete, Stacey kept an excellent blog for the first 1,000 miles with plenty of pictures and a real feeling of what it is like on the trail. She can also be reached on Instagram and Twitter. Just click on any of the links.     Lynne Savino gives us a really interesting Doc Spot, following her hypothermia section last week with how to avoid, or what to do if you get, frostbite. If you'd like her recent first aid kit, just drop me an email.   Thanks to our title sponsor, Trailtopia, who are also sponsoring our other podcast, Returning to Katahdin: An Appalachian Trail Dream. You can find the show on iTunes (I'll work out how to put a direct link here one day) or by clicking this link to the show.

Stiles, and I know you've heard me talk about this before,

0:46.1

but Stiles is yet another of those astonishing, fiercely independent women I met on the trail.

0:52.6

Meeting some of these women was I opened up for, and Stiles adds a layer of nuance to

0:56.9

my understanding of that group.

0:58.6

Who knew I'd still be learning so much about women in my 60s?

1:03.3

After scaring the pants of everybody last week with the horror stories about hypothermia,

1:08.4

Dr. Lin thought she'd step it up a bit this week by talking about

1:11.2

frostbite. Remember, this is really not an issue for many people, so don't let it put you off

1:15.9

going into the woods in the dead of winter. Just be prepared if it does happen, and Lynn's

1:20.3

talks are really supposed to be informative and preventive. Thanks again to our title sponsor,

1:25.6

Trail Tobia, and I thought I'd share this with you.

1:29.2

When I was hiking, I'd wake up to my alarm, deflate my airpad, and contemplate my blah breakfast.

1:36.5

Every morning I poured water into those different coloured paper bags, scrunch around the ingredients,

1:41.7

not one of which had any association with fruit, and then eat that soulless gunk.

1:47.7

I then find unhydrated powder and sugar in the crevices of the bag.

1:52.2

Trialopia's blueberry oatmeal is a bit of a novelty, because it actually has real blueberries.

1:57.7

Oudathunk. No gunk. It tastes great. The bag design ensures complete hydration and it

really sets you up for the day. Try Trautopia Adventure Food, the best of home cooking away from home.
