This is an apology to all black women in light of my old tweets which resurfaced over the weekend.

Now my silence on the matter was not done because I didn't care.

For many this was entertainment and it shouldn't be.

It's a serious matter which still needs to be a conversation we have among ourselves.

I said some really horrible things about black women, even though I myself am one.

In the summer of 2018 on an episode of The Grapevine, I openly admitted that I made some

horrid tweets about women who look like me. They came from a place of internalised anti-blackness

and years of constant hurt and abuse that I experienced even growing up into my adult years.

My mindset was that, because I was a black woman, it was okay, which isn't true.

The comments I made were extremely dangerous and also adds to the harmful stereotypes which

are perpetuated by society.

My past tweets were part of the problem.

I spent many years having to unlearn negative thoughts about myself

and understand why it felt to me that society hated black women.

When you're compared to an animal, a footballer,

or told that we can't even rock red lipstick constantly,

you start to believe it.

Not every woman did, but sadly, I wasn't one of them.

We were laughed at, used to create jokes, accepted that we weren't allowed to play hard to get.

Dehumanised. I mean, I'm sure there were other dark-skinned women who handled it differently,
