Summary

A crafty midweek bonus Arsecast for you, looking back on last night's frustrating, if not that surprising, defeat to Aston Villa. Mikel Arteta rotated but didn't get enough out of the fresh legs he brought in. We chat about the performance, lots of things we already know about it, the lack of creativity and the calls for Mesut Ozil to fill that gap – as well as the German's situation overall. Squad building, a reality check after two big wins, the imminent end of a frustration season, the Arteta/Kroenke thing, and lots more with Andrew Allen.

Hello and welcome to a brand new R-Splug R-Skast right here on R-Splug.com.

0:28.0

How are you? Hope you're well. Not going to spend any time on an intro today. No waffle, no blathering, no nonsense.

0:36.0

Just going to get straight into it because this is a post-villa podcast. Just a bit of waffle, a bit of a chat about what went on last night at Villa Park and some of the wider issues that we saw last night and that we've seen throughout the season with me to have a chat about all that. It's Andrew Allen. Hello Andrew.

0:54.0

Hello, you give me the sexy jobs. Yeah, that's it. We don't have an R-Skast extra today because James is all for this other podcast, but that's fine.

1:04.0

That's fine. And I'm not saying that you're just like second choice or a third backup or anything like that. You're not the Matt Macy of the podcast. It's just the way these things go.

1:14.0

You're my second podcast in 24 hours too. Oh, that's okay. Yeah, we're backing up each other here. That's fine. If you don't know already, Andrew does a podcast called Left Field, the Left Field podcast. So do check that out.

1:28.0

We though have got to talk about this game against Aston Villa game, which Arsenal needed to win and who in order to keep any slim hope of finishing in the European places alive.

1:41.0

That was extinguished last night by one single goal by Trezege. I looked up his first name and he just goes by Trezege in general. I saw. Yeah. That's quite cool.

1:53.0

It's just farther for you, isn't it? Well, that's it. Don't worry about any of these trifling first names. Just call me Trezege.

2:00.0

Let's talk about the team and the team selection and everything else that the Nikolay Tera put out there last night. It was expected, of course, that he was going to rotate.

2:11.0

There was a lot of effort and endeavor and physical hard work went into the Liverpool game went into the man city game as well. So it was inevitable that he was going to make some changes.

2:23.0

The first thing that strikes me about the team selection that he put out last night is that Nikolay Tera really does not like Socratus.

2:32.0

Yeah, true. I don't know whether they've had a conversation at some point and the situation has been explained to him, but I mean, he's had not a look in a tool as he since the restart.

2:43.0

Yeah. Really interesting. But at the same time, always makes the squad. So you get the feeling that he respects his professionalism.

2:51.0

I mean, we've talked on the podcast over the last number of weeks about class and action and the sort of player that he is and the sort of player that he is in a system like this.

3:01.0

And it just strikes me that if you're playing a back three against a team like Villa and you do need to be proactive and you need to have a lot of the ball and you need to be a bit more ambitious with the way that you play.

3:12.0

So Craddis on the right hand side of the back three and Rob holding on the left hand side of the back three where he's very comfortable and he is better on the ball than Kalasnatch seems like a reasonable way to set your team up. But for some reason, he's just not interested in doing that.

3:29.0

Like I don't know how you expect to play proper football with Kalasnatch in your team.

3:34.0

I mean, it was a very frustrating watching class and it's because I know I saw lots of people remarking on it. He does do a lot of the kind of get the ball and automatically kind of look for the sideways, such backwards pass.

3:46.0

But I think it is stats today. He made 13 out of 16 passes in the final third last night and second only behind Sabayos on that front.

3:55.0

So weirdly, he actually did kind of try and partake in, you know, a push up the field. But I just don't understand if that was the responsibility you were going to give him why you'd necessarily give it to Kalasnatch.

4:07.0

Yeah.
