| 0:36.2 | Zips Edition Supposed to be pitchers and catchers. Pitches and Catchers Report Edition. I'm John Kona. Twinsdaily.com. With me, Aaron Gleeman of Theathletic.com. I underrated you. I underestimated you. Okay. Because I just was going to say he's John Bonas. I'm Aaron Gleman, but you know what? |
| 0:54.3 | You did your job. Oh, look at that. Look at that. Took a minute or two. Yeah, pitchers and catchers either yesterday, today, we're supposed to. It varies a little. Some teams do different days. I think the twins are usually on the Thursday or the Wednesday. I know some are today. Either way. This week, pitches and catchers were |
| 1:12.1 | supposed to be reporting Arizona, Florida, all 30 teams in that, obviously, very obviously. It's |
| 1:17.5 | not taking place. I wouldn't have been there yet. I would have. Yeah, you would have. I think |
| 1:24.8 | I would have been there. I've been flying out today. Next week, probably, because Dan would have started it think i would have been there i've been flying out today next week probably because |
| 1:28.1 | dan would have started it off our plan like we did two years ago were to both go there |
| 1:35.4 | because it's six weeks basically roughly right right uh it's essentially always mid-february to |
| 1:41.0 | april first more or less or the end of march at least. So, yeah, two years ago, Dan and I, we each went twice where each trip had some overlap, so we were there together, but then at least one person was there for every day of spring training. Right, right. And last year, that was completely out the window. He only went for like two weeks and I didn't go at all last year. |
| 2:01.4 | And this year we were like kind of talking to our bosses and planning out travel stuff. |
| 2:06.3 | And, you know, lodging has become a tremendously big issue there just because there's limited space. |
| 2:11.6 | And also everyone's kind of waiting to see how this is playing out. |
| 2:14.5 | Meanwhile, all the condos and hotels and stuff are getting rented out. |
| 2:17.1 | But yeah, I don't know what the plan will be at this point. I guess that's a bridge I'll be glad to cross when we get there, if we get there. If we get there. At some point when there's actual spring training. But, yeah, it's... So the first game was usually the Friday, last Friday of the month. They play the gophers. They'd goers. So that would have been the 25th. Yeah, that sounds about right, yeah. That's right. I mean, I've got that on my head. So I still have that calendar on there. Yeah, so last time I showed up the next morning after that. Because I remember I missed the Gopher game. And that's when Twins Daily used to start covering. You used to show up. We would rent a condo for all of March. Now, first of all, that was when the season started in April, right? Now it's backed up a little bit. Yeah, it starts March 31st, potentially. We'll see. About two, three years ago, we went, you know, for when pitchers, catchers report, and that's when we recognized, oh, well, that is the time to be there. Yes, the earlier... The 10 days you're there before the actual games start. First of all, it's just easier as a sports writer. Right, that's what I'm going to say. You don't have to be there for three hours a day, right, watching baseball. That's essentially meaningless, right? Not even essentially. Everyone involved. That's one thing I learned right away. Nobody here cares. You want to get a few reps? You want to lose the five pounds you put on during the winter? That applies to sports writers as well, 55 pounds. |
| 3:47.3 | But no one cares. And when the first 10 days, everybody still wants to talk before the games actually start. And which I attribute to two things. One is, I think our energy are sports |
