Summary
Today I'm joined by Nell Stortz, my Director of Operations here at Team Allwood. She graciously stepped in and hosted a few episodes while I took a much-needed month-long sabbatical during July.
If you caught the last episode, you know that the break was great for my personal life, but today, we're diving into the business side of things, which turned out being very successful for our team!
Nell and I talk about what it looked like behind the scenes, and I open up about how challenging it was to unplug from email, step away from social media, and cut off communication with my team and clients.
If you've been considering a sabbatical or just need some time away from your business, I hope this episode gives you the encouragement, and maybe a little strategy, to make it happen in your own life.

| 0:37.9 | This is my third episode, I think, in three weeks. I know. How do you feel about it? Do you want to take it over? Regular. I want to take it over? Oh, no. But as long as everyone's okay with it, I'm okay with it too. Oh, I think everybody's okay with it. I mean, we just got a recent survey back from our clients. it turns out they love Nell as much as, we'll say that, if not more than, which I'm, you know what? I told Jason, I'm like, that's great. It's awesome that my clients love you. See, look at her. If you're watching on YouTube, she's got a little. So thank you for taking care of the podcast twice while I was off |
| 1:11.3 | we're actually going to talk today about while I was off so I had run this idea by Nell that |
| 1:16.2 | you know Jason and I wanted to do a podcast episode just kind of giving an overview of the month |
| 1:20.9 | of July because it was my first sabbatical ever it's the first time I've stepped away for a month |
| 1:25.4 | and do you want to know it's weird now is, you know, I started my |
| 1:29.2 | painting company in Kansas City in the year 2000. And then I always joke like 10 minutes later. I was |
| 1:34.0 | pregnant with Noah. And so, yes, I took time off to like deliver him physically out of my body. |
| 1:39.2 | You know, I was in the hospital. But then, you know, like a week later, it was right back to |
| 1:43.4 | being on the phone with builders and faxing estimates. And, you know, I just took Noah a lot when he was a newborn in like a carry case. Because when you're self-employed, you kind of just have to keep working because if you don't work, you don't eat. So this was my first real break in 25 years. |
| 1:59.9 | Nice. Thank you. And I don't say that to be like a martyr, but thank you. It was really good, even though it was really bad. So Jason and I did the recap. If you have not listened to that, go listen to the last episode, if you want, just about Ava was in the hospital. Easton's car got stolen. I mean, it was just a month of, you know, stolen. Yeah, stolen. I use that in parentheses. The story, I still, like, I am so hopeful that somebody's going to listen to an episode. It'd be like, oh, that's my Aunt Louise that actually drove his car on accident for a week while you all thought it was stolen. And so that's my hope. And that Aunt Louise is going to be like, yo, I am so sorry that that happened. And may I send your son a wedding gift? And I'm going to be like, yes, yes, you may. Just because of the stress you caused, Louise. I don't even know why I picked Louise as a name. Anyhow. So then that was like the personal edition on that podcast episode. This is like the work |
| 2:51.8 | edition. I thought it would be really good for us to do a chit chat in case somebody's listening |
| 2:56.3 | today that's like, okay, from a business perspective, like how did everything go? Was it messy? Were you |
