On this episode of NUTS World, as we watch the debt ceiling discussions between President

Joe Biden and Speaker Kevin McCarthy on the Daily News, I thought it was important

to look back at my experience with Speaker and how to balance the budget we did it for

four consecutive years in a row, the only time in our lifetime that was done.

And in fact, when I left office, Alan Greenspan, who was then the chairman of the Federal Reserve,

actually gave a speech in which he talked about projections that we would pay off the

federal debt by 2009.

That all broke down after I left office, but we had proven that you could balance the

federal budget.

We actually did it in four years.

We planned to do it in seven, but we did it in four.

I've been working with the Budget Committee Chairman and others to try to develop a plan.

They're doing a great job, and I think they will have a plan that gets to balance in

10 years.

And it's real.

And so it developed sort of the lessons, what is it we had learned over the process of

getting to a balanced budget?

And what are the things that worked right?

I recently put that memo into an article form for the American spectator entitled, Speak

to McCarthy, Balance the Budget to Save America.

And I want to talk about this.
