There is so much happening, Newt wanted to devote a series of episodes to understanding Artificial Intelligence. Newt’s guest is Will Rinehart. He is a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Growth and Opportunity at Utah State University.

Can you briefly talk about what is artificial intelligence,

and how has it rapidly changed and developed over the past few years?

Yeah, artificial intelligence is a big, blanket term,

a big tent term for a whole bunch of related technological developments that really have come to fruition

and come into application in the last 10, 15 years.

Probably the most important things that we're talking about today,

as you even mentioned, is the suite of technologies really around,

it's called chat GPT, right?

These technologies are called large language models.

And these LLMs are really just big models that take really big data sets.

And in this case, it's literally the data of the entire web.

And then they put into a model and they use that model to do some learning,

to do some machine learning.
