The Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of soda jerker on songwriting. This is Simon and Brian and we're here as always

to chew the fat with one of the world's finest songwriters and they genuinely don't come much finer than today's

guest. With his band Pre-Fab Sprout, of which he was a founder member, he wrote and recorded some of the

most elegant, thoughtful, romantic and enduring pop music of all time.

In October of 2013, he released a new album under the prefab moniker entitled Crimson Red

and it's a truly fine piece of work not to mention a welcome reminder for those that need

reminding of a very special talent we are truly honored to welcome to our show the peerless

Paddy Macaloon. You know I think we may have pulled off something of a coup here.

From what I can gather this is Paddy's first appearance appearance on this newfangled medium we call the

podcast?

Fantastic.

As I said we're honored and also humble to have Patty on the podcast.

He was among the first names on our wish list back when we first hatched the idea for the show but to be honest we weren't sure

if we'd ever be able to get him as he doesn't do a great deal of publicity however when we

receive word there was a new prefab sprout album on the way we swooped like

some ruthless, ravenous

bird of prey, and well here we are.

Actually you might remember us professing our love for the Steve McQueen album on our

Thomas Dalby episode a while back.

Thomas of course produced that classic record, but that really

only scratches the surface of the admiration that we have for Paddy not only as a

songwriter, but as a singer, he's got one of the most distinctive singing voices
