Summary

Latter-day Saints are a covenant-centric faith, led by the oft-repeated messages of President Russell M. Nelson to continue “on the covenant path.” But what is this covenant path, and how is it a Restoration of “the covenants of the Father of heaven unto Abraham” (1 Nephi 22:9)? In this episode, BYU professor of Ancient Scripture, Kerry Muhlestein, shares insights from his recent publication to help us better understand the blessings that come to those who enter and live the Abrahamic covenant.

0:04.8	Religion Podcast. I recently had an interesting discussion with some of my
0:09.1	students about what we might mean when we say that the church is true. I told
0:15.7	them that it can't be just that we teach truth because many face all over
0:20.7	this whole earth teach great truths. I said that it can't be because of the
0:25.6	specific organization of the church. As the Lord himself called this church
0:30.0	true in section one of the Doctrine and Covenants before we ever had the
0:34.7	relief society or the corums of the 70 or the 12 apostles or even a first
0:39.6	presidency. I said that it can't be because there have not been errors and
0:44.3	mistakes in the process of the restoration. I mean after all this
0:48.2	dispensation kicked off with a prophet losing 116 pages of sacred scripture
0:53.5	after all and even though we have some marvelous truths it can't be that we
0:59.3	have all the answers as there are many great and important truths yet to be
1:04.4	revealed pertaining to the kingdom of God as our articles of faith say. So what
1:09.9	could it mean then that the church is true? I told my students that when I hear
1:16.2	the phrase the church is true what I think it means is that the church is
1:20.4	authorized specifically it's authorized to dispense the covenants the
1:26.7	covenants of salvation and exaltation. Listen to this revelation from Doctrine
1:32.4	and Covenants section 22 verses 1 and 3 right when the church was organized in
1:37.0	April of 1830 quote I say into you that all old covenants have I caused to be
1:42.6	done away in this thing and this is a new and an everlasting covenant even that
1:47.8	which was from the beginning for it is because of your dead works that I have
