New York Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado has been sidelined by Gov. Kathy Hochul ever since he announced that he would not be running for reelection -- raising suspicions that he would instead run for Governor. Now that he's declared his challenge to Hochul, he's ready to explain why he would be a better partner for a Mayor Zohran Mamdani, where he falls on the political spectrum, why he called for both Biden and Eric Adams to step down, and why he declined to identify as a progressive despite endorsing a progressive agenda. There's no candidate interview like a Bad Faith candidate interview.

I know that you might be feeling defensive and on the back foot, very understandably so.

0:04.8

But one of the questions that you got was, do you identify as a progressive versus a moderate?

0:10.7

And although it's clear to me, based on what you've articulated as your priorities here during this interview, that I would put you in the progressive category.

0:19.1

I don't think you're a leftist, you're not a socialist, you're not joining the DSA.

0:22.6

But I think you're pretty firmly a progressive, as far as we understand it, in

0:28.6

Native America, kind of a warning, at least Rokane-y, like you can be in this realm.

0:34.6

But you seem to be hesitant about accepting that and sort of gave an answer that you

0:40.0

weren't about labels. What's that about? Yeah, oh, I appreciate that. What I have found is that

0:50.2

when we throw out our labels, people have agendas behind these labels. A lot of times,

0:56.0

depending on who the questioner is, depending on the context, you're always thinking about,

0:59.9

well, what is this individual's point? At the end of the day, yes, I am a progressive, but I don't

1:05.0

want to be boxed in in that way, because I think, and this speaks to the point that I've been

1:09.1

trying to make the entire time, what does it fundamentally mean to be a progressive at the end of the day? Is it as simple as

1:16.6

aligning with a set of more left-leaning policies, being in health care, being housing? Is it being

1:23.9

someone who's at odds with the outsized influence of corporate power. So that means you're

1:29.1

not a, you know, corporatist. Is it in contrast to being a corporatist? If it's that, then yes,

1:33.8

right, of course. But there's a dimension to my politics, and this is why I always hesitate to

1:38.3

just say, I'm a progressive, that I would argue transcends progressivism. It's a people-centered

1:43.0

outlook that actually isn't just about whether or not you're a

1:49.3

corporatist or a progressive, but do you actually give a damn about people?

1:54.0

Right, but look, look, Lieutenant Governor.

1:56.0

It's service leadership.
