Summary

Glenn Sweitzer, designer and filmmaker, is our guest today. Glenn's fascinating back story takes in working with Disney, designing artwork for Tim McGraw and others, then telling stories through film, before ending up on the Appalachian Trail, discovering and sharing stories along the way.

Glenn is a natural raconteur with an eye for detail, and has produced an award-winning Appalachian Trail movie, Trail Mix, that is very evocative of my time out on trail, so there should be plenty for you all to enjoy as he hikes the trail and meets other storytellers along the way. Check out the trailer to Trail Mix here. Local Folk: Trail Mix - Finding Yourself on the Appalachian Trail

Glenn has recognized the healing properties of trail hiking and has formed a 501c3 called the Trail Please Foundation, see that clip here. Trails Please

Beth and Andrew are within spitting distance of Katahdin, well into the 100 Mile Wilderness, where they met a previous Might Blue Class of member, Bobby Campbell, or Sloggy. Here they are together.

I used my hike last year on the South West Coast Path in the UK to help raise money for my absolute favorite charity, Parenting Matters, on whose board I've been privileged to serve for over a decade. You can learn more about the hike and the organization–and donate–by visiting Hike with Steve - Empowering Parents, One Step at a Time | Parenting Matters %. I hope you want to support this critical mission.

Don't forget. Our entire series of videos from our Woods Hole Weekend in 2022 is now FREE and available at my YouTube page at Woods Hole Weekend - Trailer There, you'll find all sorts of tips and tricks that our guests took away from the weekend that helped them with their own hikes this year. Check it out.

I often ask listeners for ideas on who to interview, and I'm sure several of you say, "I could do that. I've got an awesome story to tell." You're the person we need to hear from. If you'd like to be interviewed on the podcast, just register as a guest on the link below, and I'll be in touch. Come on the show!

she'll be sleeping in a tent in the forest for the first time in her life on Thursday evening. She's really excited about it. So am I to be fair, because I want to know if she enjoys it. I'll let you all know next week. Today we have one of, if not the longest interview we've ever had on the podcast. Glenn Switzer is a fascinating guy who is a real raconteur, and I knew as soon as we spoke the

1:12.9

first time that it was my job to let him talk and share his stories, which I think you're

1:16.9

going to love. Glenn made a movie trial mix, and we talked about how his career led towards

1:21.5

the Appalachian Trail in the movie, meeting several people you know already along the way.

1:26.9

He weaves the stories into the movie,

1:28.7

so my job was just to get out of the way as he spoke

with great passion about music, design, movies and the trail.

1:35.1

I think you're going to love hearing from Glenn.

After Glenn, we caught up with Beth and Andrew in the 100-mile wilderness,

with just about 50 miles to go before they reach Catan.

They've even found trail magic in the wilderness, though if you've been listening throughout their journey, that should not come as too much of a surprise to many of you. I'll be at Woods Hole when they summit later in the week, but I still hope to have their initial thoughts from the top of Katarden with the longer catch-up when I return home. And talking to Katarden, though I know it is particularly presumptuous for me to be even thinking about Catardin before I've even started my third through hype next year.

2:07.6

I posted on Facebook the other day that I'll be going for it again next year and so many of you

2:11.9

already reached out with offers to help or a drink when I come through your neck of the woods.

2:16.7

So many in fact that I'll be putting together a spreadsheet with who has offered help where and when, and I'll be calling you when I come through. I must say, getting it out there and committing to the hike was slightly nerve-wracking for me, but now that I've said it, I've allocated the money for it, and so many of you have offered to help along the way.

2:36.6

I can't bloody wait to get started next year.

2:42.8

It's funny how that shift happens, and I've gone from deliberating to being impatient to get going in about a week.
