Summary

On this week's show I chat with former Gunner Alan Smith as he celebrates the release of his new book 'Heads up - My life story'. We discuss how the book came to be, the fact he wrote it himself without a ghostwriter, his path into professional football, joining Arsenal from Leicester, his relationship with George Graham, scoring goals – important goals, moving into punditry, the challenges of that job, what's happening at Arsenal right now, and lots more.

There's also some brief waffle about the West Ham game this weekend – and if you want to win a copy of Alan's book, check out the competition on arseblog.com

0:49.0

on what's to come.

0:50.4

If you do look at those games, they're not easy by any stretch.

0:54.7

No Premier League game could be considered easy, but they're not as difficult as those

0:59.7

opening two games and they are a really good chance for us to go on a bit of a run, build

1:04.1

some momentum and for Unai Emery to start to shape his team into the kind of side that

1:09.4

he wants and the kind of performances that he wants from them throughout the season.

1:14.3

So hopefully we can do that a bit later on.

1:16.5

We are going to be looking ahead briefly to the West Hand game.

1:19.6

There are some people who used to play for our stone coming home Jack Wilshire of course

1:23.8

Lucas Perez, but the first part of this particular podcast is going to be an interview

1:29.9

with somebody who scored many, many goals for Arsenal, one of which was at Amfield 89.

1:35.9

Another was in the Cup winers Cup Final in 1994 when we beat Parma 1-0 the last time we

1:42.4

won a European trophy.

1:44.0

It was the only goal of the game and I'm talking of course about Alan Smith.
