Summary

In 2006, an unprecedented resource was created to allow the public to identify and access data about sex offenders nationwide. The Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Website, or NSOPW, was signed into law in 2006 as a result of “Dru’s Law” – legislation created after 22 year old Dru Sjodin was kidnapped and murdered by a serial rapist who had been released from prison despite being classified as a Level 3 sex offender – meaning he was likely to reoffend. Dru’s death led to this resource being created, establishing a safer world for many.
