I respect this man so much. You may remember him from episode 249 or know his work as the editor in chief at Christianity today. |
| 1:53.8 | Dr. Moore's latest book, losing our religion and ultra call for evangelical America released August 1st. It is an important challenge to the church to actually live out the gospel instead of letting cynicism and division tear us apart and define what the world sees in Christianity. |
| 2:10.2 | In this book, he calls us to conversion over culture wars to truth over tribalism to the gospel over politics to integrity over influence and we talk about a lot of that today. |
| 2:22.0 | I am just so honored that he would take time to be with us. I'm always appreciative of Dr. Moore's wise voice of reason and his ability to speak truth and confusing moments in our culture. |
| 2:34.4 | I think you're really going to learn a lot from him today. So here is my conversation with Dr. Russell Moore. |
| 2:43.7 | Dr. Moore, welcome back to that. Sounds fun. Oh, it's great to be here. Thanks so much. You're here. It is such an honor to sit in a room with you. I know it's great to be a person to see your place. |
| 2:53.0 | Yeah. Thank you. Okay. I want to start. Let's honor Tim Keller for a minute. I mean, what does he know that we don't know everything. Everything. Yeah. |
| 3:01.6 | I just imagine what a joy it was when he got there. Yeah. Yeah. You know, and he said to several people right at the very end. I'm ready. I'm ready to be with Jesus. And I think that's clearly the case. You know, this is somebody who had such a sense of me. People think about his intellect, but there was such a sense of gratitude. |
| 3:29.2 | I mean, I remember I felt like an idiot one day because he called. I was going through some stuff and he called to check on me and I talked. We talked for over an hour. And at the end of it, I found out he was going through chemotherapy. Then. Wow. And I was like, here, I've talked about my little trivial nonsense for this long. And his response, I will never forget because he said, you know, I'm in my 70s. |
| 3:59.2 | I've got a wife. I love. I've got great children who are all following the Lord. Fantastic grandchildren. What do I have to complain about? And I know that really struck me because I'm not at the place of my own spiritual maturity where that would be my response to that. I don't think. When you posted about him passing away, you talked about this like secret group of y'all in like a book club or something, right? We had to we have two secret groups. Yeah. |
| 4:28.8 | Tim was a part of that secret, but once a book club that we it's really the books are an excuse to hang out and encourage each other. Yes. And the other is a group that meets every Thursday that includes non Christians, Christians, everything. And so Tim would be in that group with another friend of ours who's a complete atheist. Wow. |
| 4:55.6 | And who would often he would often say, I just I feel like I'm colorblind. Like there's something there's a color you all can see of the spirit that I just can't see, but I watch the way Tim. So patiently loved him and really was direct in terms of talking to him. And after he died, that was of all of the tributes. That was the one that struck me the most is. |
| 5:25.4 | This atheist talked about his character and said, I loved him. Wow. He did. He really did. Yeah. If people have not read Tim color yet. Do you have the like this is the one or these are the two like here's here's how you can get to know Tim or glean the most from him. |
| 5:45.4 | Well, I think his reason for God is a really, really good and helpful one, especially for people who are trying to think through is does this make sense. That's really good. And also to listen to the sermons. |
| 6:00.3 | And they're just there's just something about the way he was able to communicate with I think about all the time. He talked about one time he was preaching and there was a woman there who hadn't. Maybe this was her first time in church. And she yelled out. Well, what about whatever. |
