Alright friends welcome back to the Gritty Bowman Podcast. This is part two of the Navigation

Alright Aaron drain the tank and we are back. Yeah so we covered just about everything we wanted

to cover except the explanation or a little bit more in depth explanation of a UTM grid coordinate

and then how to plot that on your map or your position from that coordinate. So again UTM

was when the entire earth was split into 60 sections and those 60 sections are basically 1 through

60 from left to right and then they're from bottom to top ABCD EFG. So when you turn your GPS on

and it's programmed for UTM grid coordinate you're going to have a section. It won't say section

on it but you'll see a like a 1, 3 and a ns so two numbers and then a letter. That'll match up

with your map that you're using everything being equal and correct. That part's easy because it

tells you your section on your map and you can't screw that up but the complicated part is the

468 and 10 to the grid coordinates of the exact grid square that you're in. So UTM is figured out

off of meters and a UTM grid square is a thousand meters by a thousand so it's a thousand meter

box basically thousand meters left to right thousand meters top to bottom or bottom to top.

So what we're wanting to get is one the map section which is easy enough we talked about that

earlier somewhere on the map of the world this is a horrible drawing you're going to be in a section

on this and the map that you buy for the area you're in will tell you that section. One of those

60 sections or where a couple of those sections intersect or it'll basically be 13s for example where

you're at that's the one of those 60 sections that your map is covering. So when you turn on your

GPS your section when you turn on and it gives you your grid coordinate your section will match up

with your map. That part is easy where it gets more difficult is when you turn on your GPS and it has

all those other numbers and I have my GPS on and so can you read that Brian? Yep 13s 0 4 8 0 or 8 8 4 7 7
