This week we'll hear from two of the biggest sloths on radio,

master detectives whose girth was exceeded only by their powers of deduction.

Hamlet.

Several actors played Wolf, the gargantuan gourmet, who preferred to work from home from his comfortable

brownstone and let his legman Archie Goodwin handle the physical duties of

detective work. But the best known radio incarnation of Nero Wolf starred Sydney Green Street,

the Oscar nominee who was introduced to moviegoers as Casper Gutman,

The Fat Man, in the Maltese Falcon.

Green Street starred as Wolf in a single radio season,

a run of episodes that saw six different actors co-starring as Archie Goodwin.

Now if you're a Rex stout purest, you may not like the way the radio wolf differs from the

character in the novels, but if you'll allow for some differences in the

translation to the airwaves, you'll be rewarded with a very good series and an outstanding

lead performance from Green Street.
