We are repeatedly asked to choose, either we accept the life that has been given to us,

or we undertake the greater adventure of the soul.

Fire and heat were the essence at the origin of the universe.

In modern thought, the world began with the singular event born of heat and density, now commonly called the Big Bang. Current theories about the Earth's

molten core compare its temperature to the fiery surface of the sun. Each day, the combustion of the

sun continues to warm, if not overheat, the Earth's surface, while a hidden inferno burns at the

core of the planet we call home. The world is on fire, much as Heraclitus described it

2,500 years ago when he proclaimed the flame of life to be the first principle and the cosmos to be

an ever-living fire. Fire appears at the beginning and hides at the center of all that exists

as all things are exchanged for fire and fire for all things.

Fire is both the physical incarnation of the constant heat of creation and the perpetual

flux and flickering change at the heart of life.

All of life is on fire, a universal agony and ecstasy of burning, a living, breathing,

inspiration and illumination amidst the eternal sea of darkness.

Under the old adage of, as above so below, we are also on fire.

We who are born of the cosmic heat and constant flux are burning as well.
