| 0:00.0 | And the Oh, Welcome everyone to the Battle of Gettysburg Podcast. I am your co-host Eric Lindblade and as always I am joined by my co-host Jim Hesselar. Jim, what's tonight's topic? |
| 0:42.0 | Hey Eric and hello everybody, welcome back. |
| 0:45.0 | First of all, we are back on the favorable grounds at our studio at Getty's Gear, |
| 0:50.0 | and we're going to cover part two of John Sedgwick and the Sixth Core with esteemed historian |
| 0:56.3 | Dr. Carol Reardon. Part one we had great feedback, great response to part two is even better and I would argue now it's been a while since I've listened to it Eric |
| 1:07.2 | But I would argue by the second or even third hour we were in the studio together we were getting a little punchy so I even |
| 1:14.2 | think there might be a little tension in part two that wasn't in part one. |
| 1:18.0 | There could be stay tuned for that but but all joking aside we we said I think we coined the term Sedgwick mania was sweeping the world and what I think is neat is sometimes when there's topics that don't get a lot of attention. When students in the battle get a chance to delve into that topic, |
| 1:36.0 | they realize there's kind of a wealth of sources, |
| 1:38.0 | a wealth of information they didn't really know about, |
| 1:40.0 | and it's something new. |
| 1:41.0 | And even though the Six Corps was here, we're not saying they're new, but it's something |
| 1:45.0 | no one's really talked about and I think it gave people a greater appreciation of John Sedgwick |
| 1:49.7 | beyond just being the punchline of his death. |
| 1:52.0 | That's exactly it, that point about the punchline. |
| 1:54.5 | I know I said it in part one, and I hate using cliches, |
| 1:58.0 | but the cliche I'm going to keep coming back to is Sedgwick and the Sixth Corps do deserve more than being a punchline. |
| 2:05.2 | And so Carol is going to take us through, geez, I don't even remember what she takes us through, |
| 2:09.6 | but kind of the end of the campaign, I think right up until Sedgwick's death and it will be |
| 2:14.0 | treated with the appropriate seriousness that that topic finally deserves. |
| 2:19.0 | Absolutely and and it was interesting when we released the episode. |
| 2:23.3 | We even had folks comment on social media. |
