Connie Walker is an investigative reporter and podcast host. Her new show is Stolen: The Search for Jermain.“For so long, there has been this kind of history of journalists coming in and taking stories from Indigenous communities. And that kind of extractive, transactional kind of journalism that really causes a lot of harm. And so much of our work is trying to undo and address that. 0:19.3	on the show. Connie was a long time reporter for the CBC in Canada and then over the last
0:26.2	five years she reported and hosted this amazing podcast series called Missing and Murdered,
0:32.8	which is about the disappearance of a digitous woman in Canada and issues around those
0:38.9	disappearances. Season one of that show is about a woman named Alberta Williams, who was
0:45.0	murdered in the late 80s. Uh, that they investigate and season two, which is called
0:49.7	Finding Cleo is about a woman named, uh, Cleopatra Semeganus, who was taken from her family
0:56.5	in something called the 60s scoop, which is a situation in which the government removed
1:02.4	Indigenous children from their homes forcibly. It's a pretty well known thing in Canada,
1:07.8	uh, now and probably should be more well known here. So that's the context of those two
1:12.8	earlier seasons that we start talking about. And she also has a new show coming out this
1:17.8	time from, uh, Gimlet and Spotify, which is called stolen, which is about a similar situation
1:23.0	in the US, a woman that went missing, uh, just two years ago in Montana. Let me be the, uh,
