We left off last time in early July 1798.

Napoleon's Army of the Orient had just landed on the Egyptian coast and seized the Port City

of Alexandria from a weak unprepared Mamluk Garrison.

Bonaparte had taken the first step towards his grand ambitions of conquering an empire

in the East.

Now the French expedition would face its first real test.

Napoleon had shown his hand.

France's enemies, the British and the Mamluks, had their first clear look of where the expedition was and what they were doing.
